LSVT BIG is an intensive amplitude-based exercise approach for the treatment of the altered movement patterns that develop in people with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions. LSVT BIG was developed and scientifically researched over the past 20 years with funding from the National Institutes of Health.
LSVT BIG trains the patient with Parkinson’s Disease to use bigger movement anywhere and with all daily tasks. This empowers individuals with the potential they have to keep moving and stay active.
This treatment approach focuses on 3 specific principles of exercise:
  • Amplitude or BIG movements
  • Intensive and high effort
  • Calibration or a relearning by the patient of what are actually “normal” movements
Specifically, this treatment approach produces:
  • Faster walking with bigger steps
  • Improved balance
  • Increased trunk rotation
